Athlete Mentor
-
Aug 2013 - Aug 2014
The LeAF Elite Athlete Academy offers young athletes from a variety of sports the opportunity to train and study full time. I am responsible for mentoring the Development Football group, both girls and boys aged 14-15. I assist with the coordination of their GCSE studies and Academy training, as well as liaising with external coaches and parents to ensure the athletes are fulfilling their potential in education and sport. Daily duties include delivering seminars and workshops on topics such as goal setting and motivation, 1:1 meetings, organising work placements, supporting the athletes through injury rehabilitation, and many aspects of pastoral care. In addition I work closely with teachers and coaches to ensure individual educational and sporting targets are being met. Show less

Competitions Assistant / Communications Officer
-
Mar 2011 - Aug 2013
I assisted the Competitions Manager with all aspects of preparing and running national and international competitions (biathlons, triathlons, tetrathlons and pentathlons). Duties included producing the competition paperwork, processing entries, dealing with enquiries, and ordering and organising competition equipment. I was a key figure in the organisation of the British Schools Biathlon Series which attracts over 5,000 entries across the UK, and culminates with the British Championships involving almost 1,000 athletes. At the competitions I ran the registration desk and took on the role of an official when required (run, swim and shoot). My role as communications officer required me to manage all aspects of external communications for the organisation. I liaised with our media partners to ensure representation of the athletes and organisation were appropriately met via the media, plus I wrote news stories and features for the company website, Facebook and Twitter. I produced a bi-monthly newsletter for the members, and sourced and organised promotional material for marketing purposes. Show less

Football Coach
-
Jul 2008 - Oct 2010
Seasonal work (summer and autumn 2008, 2009 & 2010). I prepared and delivered football sessions for children of all abilities aged between 3-16 in many different locations across USA. I managed coaches on a number of camps when promoted to Camp Director, a role which also involved administrative duties such as completing camp paperwork at the end of each camp. I coached boys and girls teams (U10-U15) in Connecticut, USA - both individual techniques and team tactics in preparation for competitive games. I was selected to coach on higher level Women's Professional Soccer Camps, which involved specific technical training sessions following a curriculum, and classroom sessions covering topics relevant to lifestyle management such as nutrition, team building and sports psychology. I prepared and delivered 'adventure soccer' sessions for young children new to the sport. I am a qualified Level 2 FA coach, plus the FA Beginners Futsal Coaching Award. Show less

P.E. Assistant
-
Nov 2006 - Jun 2010
North Hill House School is a special needs school for boys with Asperger Syndrome. I assisted the Head of P.E. with preparation and delivery of all P.E. sessions, working 1:1 where necessary with more challenging pupils. For a period of 6 weeks I was the lead P.E. teacher which involved lesson planning and evaluation, as well as delivery of the sessions. Differentiation was very important in this environment as the pupils all had varying degrees of physical ability and coordination due to their diagnosis. Very challenging role, sometimes dangerous with high levels of violence often displayed by pupils. Show less

Multi-Sports/Dance Coach
-
Aug 2002 - Nov 2006
As a qualified football, cricket, basketball and dance coach, my work was varied – travelling around to local schools, youth clubs and day nurseries introducing children to various new skills. My work mainly consisted of teaching P.E. in many different primary schools each week during teachers’ PPA time, following both the national curriculum and the schools’ individual agenda. Running after school and breakfast clubs was also a major part of my job. I am confident with children of all ages from 3-16 and teach many other sports such as hockey, tennis and rugby as well as gymnastics, tap dancing, street dance and drama. I was also involved with a number of special needs centres, which was both exciting and rewarding work. During the school holidays I worked as an activity leader for the company’s summer schools and children’s parties. Show less
