Bio
Matthew Kaufman
There are a very small number of software and system architects who I consider to be "extremely senior"... able to work the more complex of the tiny details and simultaneously keep a picture of the entire system in their head, and to use that capability to come up with new ways of doing things that seem impossible to others. Alexey is one of these rare individuals. He is someone I would gladly add as co-founder at any technical startup, and trust with the overall architecture of any system. And anyone with an opportunity to have Alexey as their mentor should jump at the chance. And although Alexey worked for me, there's no reason why it couldn't have just as easily been the other way around.
Nikolay Abkairov
Alexey is one of the best engineers that I've worked with. Back in 2007 we started brainstorming very initial idea of Qik with him - when we were the only 2 developers for Qik Inc. in RU at that time. Then he built all of the media/storage backend for it single-handedly in a very short time - and we launched our alpha version. Then building Backend team and opening office in Moscow, making things more stable, scalable, lowering delay... His console tool that gave us all BI data & logs in realtime was indispensable. We'd look at it every day having internal competition between client platforms - which platform gets more users. Then persevering thru hard times of RIF and office relocation. Then launching video calls with Sprint and TMO. Then turning 180 degrees and helping us with Samsung hw video codecs on immature Android, satisfying CEO of Samsung himself.... I can go on and on... Alexey, thank you so much for all the hard work throughout these 7 years, and for persevering through all of this all the best at your new venture!!

Workato makes your cloud applications to talk to each other. Alexey is doing backend. Massive job scheduling, parallel execution, storage, REST API and webhooks, monitoring, scaling and more. Saw this company going from prototype to unicorn (fingers crossed). Workato makes your cloud applications to talk to each other. Alexey is doing backend. I was a part of a team participating in due diligence of Qik technology stack, building roadmap of integrating Qik into Skype, reviewing what needed to be reworked to make product per Skype quality standards, huge user base, and mature data center platform. Helped to integrate acquired Qik technologies into Skype, make use of Skype IP in Qik product portfolio. Did a few pilot researches of possibility to use Windows Azure cloud products in existing and future projects. Qik data analytics team headed by me was in Qik the first to migrate completely to cloud based technologies. Show less

Qik is live video streaming and recording service for your mobile phone camera - two in one. One can broadcast what you see to thousands of followers in adaptive quality, and then come back and replay the recording in best quality. Company was acquired by Skype for approximately $150M in Jan 2011. I was employee #1. From beginning was responsible for architecture and operation of distributed realtime video streaming backend infrastructure. In the early days it included planning, HW procurement, set up of data center, system administration, operations, and server software development. Wrote down specification for architecture, protocols, metrics etc. Hired unique and capable team which under my leadership built unique multimedia streaming backend. Some technologies were patented. Challenges solved: - solved problem of reliable video streaming over flanky cellular conncetion - built scalable multimedia streaming platform using different protocols such as RTMP, RTP, HTTP - built scalable on demand transcoding technology for live and recorded video streams. - built scalable reliable storage tuned for video streaming operations, on-demand data access. - developed very powerful backoffice system which allowed to analyse user problems, debug and troubleshoot whole system end-to-end - from mobile device via server farm to internet browser. Overall in 4 years build very mature architecture bringing it via 3 major versions according to used base growth, and changes or better understanding of business and technology problems. Eventually worked on high impact special tasks such integration with 3G IMS video calling, BI and analytics etc. Show less
