I prepared and taught two courses on Game Design and Game Studies for MA and BA students at Art and Design School. One of the courses was called "Introduction to Game Studies" and aimed at giving BA and MA students tools of analysing video games by means of philosophy and other humanities. I have organised the course around the notion of the implied player that I coined up during my own research in game studies. Implied player is a role that game prepares for a possible player. By using the concept one can analyse how games encourage a player to share certain ethical systems and values or produce aesthetical effects of sublime or awe. Another course called "Game Studies" was designed solely for MA students and more specifically aimed at developing analytical and research skills necessary for conducting a research as a part of a future MA thesis. The course was organised as a research seminar where several groups of students (labs) conducted research relevant for their own projects. The final class was organised as a conference open to a wider audience: the labs presented their projects not only to HSE staff but also to everyone who wanted to visit HSE and listen to the presentations. I was working at popularising the event and inviting people from academia and game industry interested in game research. Research Experience: - Proposed new arguments against the nominalistic theory of aesthetic properties by analysing logical properties of aesthetic terms and by constructing various thought experiments based on their usage. Conducting a research project on how republicanism as political philosophy conceives civic education, its practices and institutions. Since the issue of civic virtue, "virtus" has been at the centre of republican philosophy since antiquity, the questions of education have also been regularly raised in this tradition: if a harmoniously developing republic requires virtuous citizens, educating such citizens becomes a key enterprise. For the same reason, the question of education is also relevant for modern republicanism. In the contemporary research literature devoted to this topic, the problem of education is concretized within the framework of three questions initially posed by Collin M. Macleod [Colin M. Macleod (2015) Freedom as non-domination and educational justice, Critical Review of International Social and Political Philosophy, 18:4, 456-469]: 1) Is the civic republican concept of non-domination applicable to children? 2) What a republican curriculum would look like? 3) Can civic republicanism guarantee social justice in education? I have analysed main attempts to answer these questions presented in the research literature, as well as identified important gaps in it (insufficient development of “intrinsic” republicanism, insufficient attention to higher education) and possible ways to fill them. I argued that this led to inconsistency in the very foundations of the Habermas' work. I argued that in order to sove the problem one could use the ideas offered by so called practice turn in social theory, more precisely to the notion of negotiations proposed by Michel Callon and Bruno Latour.
