  The internship was part of the Curriculum of the "Industrial Engineering and Management" masters degree. The task was to develop a Decision Support Tool (DST) to assist the downscaling of a water treatment plant during periods of drought. The DST was a Machine Learning model trained to predict changes in river streamflow 6 and 12 days in advance. The steps taken during the execution of the project were: -Collect and process required data describing the environmental characteristics of the catchment area surrounding the river from which the plant intakes water. -Analyze the data describing the river environment to gather initial insights. -Use expert knowledge and literature to generate new features that help capture complex relationships present in the system. -Select the most significant features according to model performance. -Tune model hyperparameters to maximize model performance. -Interpret model prediction in order to provide knowledge on model characteristics and process evolution.
