  As a PhD student in Dr. Afia Ali's research group, I investigated inhibitory interneurons in the App_NL-F/NL-F mouse model of Alzheimer's disease to better understand the shift between excitation and inhibition and to identify a possible novel therapy.Techniques used include: immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, behavioural studies, statistical analysis. Electrophysiology experience.Viva passed in July 2021.

  The first year of the UCL-Birkbeck MRC Doctoral Training Programme included three rotational projects before commencing the three-year PhD. During the rotations I developed the following skills:-Programming: -analysed RNASeq data in R; -investigated coevolution between protein residues using python; -analysed confocal microscopy images using Fiji(Image J).-Confocal microscopy. One of the images I took was selected for exhibition in the "Research Images As Art / Art Images As Research" UCL competition 2018-Bacteria culture, maintenance of nematode colonies. Show less

I coordinate the UCL Union side of the programme, which means I promote it to UCL students, take bookings, liaise with the trainers, make sure everything runs smoothly and the students make the most out of this initiative. This means that I organise the initial meeting between Transition Mentors and their mentees and read the weekly logs the mentors provide to ensure everything is running smoothly. I make sure that the transition mentors of this year as well as the mentees enjoy themselves and actually learn something while being part of the scheme. I believe that learning goes both ways- the mentees receive support from the mentors, but the latter should also benefit from the scheme and enrich their university experience at the end of it.
