I originally launched my company to sell prints and canvases fusing artistic and philosophical concepts. The name "Surface by Sasha" was inspired by Oscar Wilde's preface to The Portrait of Dorian Grey: "All art is at once surface and symbol. Those who go beneath the surface do so at their peril." My intention is to present enticing and curious surfaces for spectators to dive deeper into their own subconscious. The website is currently revamping as the company transitions to more written philosophical work. My Instagram page @surfacebysasha engages followers by exploring a fusing of existential and ancient philosophy, reimagining older works in modern contexts. Show less

Choosito is a start-up company that creates a safe, online-learning environment for children of all ages and for all reading levels. My duties include market research (which helps us both narrow and broaden our software to be as efficient as possible), creating PowerPoint presentations and Excel worksheets that delineate the aforementioned research, and designing flyers and pamphlets for investors and consumers to learn more about what Choosito! has to offer. As a sales representative for Vector Marketing, I have the opportunity to present Cutco cutlery to potential customers. This requires me to make appointments by phone, drive to the customer's residence, and present to them the product. This job has boosted my confidence, strengthened my presentation skills, and expanded my network. I was promoted within my first five days on the job due to the amount I sold. For two summers in a row, I was able to assist in the organization and execution of the Fulbright program, which is an experience that offers a cultural exchange for students at the University of Pennsylvania, and other schools around the country. My tasks included but were not limited to creating name tags, updating logs that recorded all the students' information, designing flyers, and creating a schedule and a map for international students to explore Philadelphia. Eastern Regional High School did not have a College Fair before me and my classmate Jessica Rothman organized one. This college fair, however, focused much more on the transition to college. We not only had guest speakers from the colleges come and speak about the opportunities available at their institution, but we also had teachers speak about what our high school had to offer to help students be as prepared for college as possible. This enabled students from all grades (Freshman-Junior) to attend and learn how to get the most out of their high school experience to set up a strong platform on which to enter college. My classmate and I designed flyers, contacted colleges, created a floor plan, organized a schedule that included lectures, panels, and free time, and helped a lot of students get answers to their questions and concerns. As part of my senior project, I created, organized, and taught an art workshop for elementary school children. My background in art history came in handy when I began researching and shaping the curriculum for my students. I spent months not only researching the art but also researching children education, art therapy, and other insightful fields that tremendously benefited the program. The biggest challenge was finding a way to teach children who were in Kindergarten the same material that I was teaching the fifth graders, and every grade in between. Overall, this workshop was the highlight of my high school career. Words cannot describe the feeling of inspiring a child to pursue art or brightening a student's day simply by teaching them something they enjoy. Below is a list of each lesson. Lesson One: Introduction: Make Your Flag (2/13/2013) Lesson Two: Inkblot Psychology: Think Blot (2/20/2013) Lesson Three: Picasso: Making Monsters (3/6/2013) Lesson Four: Textures: Zentangle (3/13/2013) Lesson Five: Interpreting Art: Dr. Suess (3/20/2013) For more information about each session, feel free to contact me.
