As a member of the “prep” staff, I am in charge of completing a myriad of tasks that help all sections of the shop as well as making sure I am on top of the tasks I am assigned to, the two biggest skills utilized in this job are teamwork and the ability to handle a large variety of tasks in order to keep the whole coffee shop functioning. Program Assistant – Immigration Section
-
2015 - 2018
I worked on a team of emergency summer hires to assist the Immigration Department during their peak visa season. This program processes 500,000 visa applications a year. My role was to ensure that all final documents were accounted for and properly processed before they were sealed into an envelope and sent to the visa applicant. Errors could have been made by other staff during the process; I had to catch them, which I did many times. By catching errors, I was able to prevent Chinese tourist vacation cancellations; was able to send Chinese students to Canadian universities on time for their fall programs; and helped business people make their trips on time to Canada where they perhaps created jobs for Canadians. Although it was a tedious process, I was proud to be assisting the Ambassador and the Immigration Minister in reaching their goals. I also was faster and more successful in catching errors than most of my co-workers. I always tried my best to demonstrate a strong work ethic amongst the team. My supervisors were very pleased with my contribution and have asked me to return every summer. Show less
