Modules included: Environmental Assessment & Management, Ecosystems, GIS, Satellite Remote Sensing and Literature Reviews. As part of my MSc thesis I worked alongside members of the Welsh Institute for Sustainable Environments (WISE Network) to provide recommendations to Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC) on the suitability of Maesteg Washery, a reclaimed coal washery, for regeneration, the provision of ecosystem services and information on ecosystem resilience. Research involved vegetation surveys and soil sampling, chlorophyll and florescence analysis of trees, soil analysis and statistical analysis of the data, as well as desk studies. The final report will be provided to BCBC to support ecosystem service mapping commissioned by Natural Resources Wales. Show less

    • Tropical Ecology & Conservation Field Course
      • Nov 2011 - Dec 2011

Tropical ecology and conservation field course held in Kirindy Forest, Madagascar. The course covered current concepts and techniques in ecology, conservation biology, experimental design and sampling methods, culminating in an independent two week research project. I gained a scholarship from the Society of Biology to help fund my trip and subsequently wrote an article about my time in Madagascar which was published on the Society’s online blog (http://societyofbiologyblog.org/a-society-of-biology-travel-grant-to-madagascar/).
