I am looking into different diagnostics from the experimental point of view. One of my projects is an optical beam loss monitor. I have successfully applied for several small grants including for grants for the beam time. I have adapted the technology from the different particle accelerator for a new type of machine, and I have performed the product development of the devices for the different particle acclerators. This involved design and delivery of the systems for the accelerators at Daresbury (VELA/CLARA) and Diamond Light source. Design of the system included the optical design of the light delivery and photosensor (various SiPMs) integrations, electronics design, planning, manufacturing, assembling and debugging of the electronics for the power and transimpedance amplification of the signal from the photosensor; data analysis; comparable studies of the whole system; assessments of the system; system integration for the accelerators. Other roles: Laser Laboratory responsible officer; Beam diagnostics forum chair-leader; grant applications; establishing collaborations; dissemination of the scientific results. Results: • Initiated 3 new scientific projects in particle accelerators having secured funding for them (£200k); • Advanced 5 R&D projects: solved technical problems saving at least 10% funding and 30% time; • Created projects and documentations portfolio with clear assessment criteria saving at least 20% time; • Created 2 workshops and 2 platforms for internal communication within the team that accelerated achievement of key performance indicator by 1,5; • Started 2 international collaborations leading to contracts with the University of Liverpool for more than £500k.

The Royal Society of Edinburgh Enterprise Fellowship for commercially exploitable research and setting up of a start-up business. I havevdobe an extended training in various areas of start ups: knowledge exchange, business plans, customers relationships, ip, spin outs, ect. As a part of my role, I was looking into commercialization of the research activities of the QUASAR group which have been done so far. As a result of that, D-beam it's has been spined out. See: www.d-beam.co.uk The core product is an optical beam loss monitor, whoch can provide the information on beam losses non-intrusively with high spatial reslution on 10 cm with an on-line update. A profile of d-beam products includes other optical diagnostics that have been developed by the QUASAR Group. The fellowship gave me an opportunity to bring a new aspect of view towards science in all aspects of business development which shifted the way I look into any research from now on. My key tasks included: • Developed a Product Portfolio: assessed the commercialisation of the optical diagnostics for accelerators and metrology standard for instrumentation and classified a roadmap of industry of particle accelerators; • Negotiated starting a new start-up (D-Beam) and its IP with key stakeholders of University of Liverpool; • Created a Market Strategy for the company, and organized budgeting and development of a new instrumentation after securing the contract with CLARA (UK). Results: • Completed a business training (200 hours) for the entrepreneurs, developed a business plan, products portfolio; • Established the company (D-Beam), then identified and secured its first commercial project.

The project is a development of a laser velocimeter for in-detail characterization of the gas jet, allowing for investigations into the jet dynamics itself, probing simultaneously its density, velocity, and temperature. I have developed a stand along compact laser-diode system capable of measuring various parameters of different targets, such as vibrations, displacements, velocity of solid and fluid targets. The project has included the concept development, test diagnostics, data analysis and sensor development progress. Involved into the project areas: LD lasers, concept development, interferometry, transimpedance amplifier, electronics at high frequencies ranges, diagnostics development. On top of that the area of application is particle accelerators, hence I gain the inside knowledge on particle accelerators. My key tasks included: • Designed, developed and integrated a laser-based sensor from the idea to a fully-operating sensor, including the calibration experiments for sensor, analytical theory, software, data analysis and statistics; • Prepared documentation and budgeting of the project and strategic thinking for execution of the sensor in a short period of time; networking to find collaborator for a rapid project development. Results: • Created suppliers database and negotiated better prices reducing spending by 40%; • Delivered a new monitor within 3 years instead of 5 and with 30% less than expected budget; • Created equipment portfolio for 2 laboratories saving at least 30% on time and budget, and more for the future; • Developed and executed a new theory into a new software, saving at least 20% on time.
