Work Experience

Sep 2014 - Sep 2014
I did a weeks work experience at WSI where I had the opportunity to write media forecast scripts for Ireland and a 2 day outlook for Italy and Europe using model output. I also had the opportunity to shadow the energy forecasters and write a 1-5 day outlook and a 6-10 day outlook for Europe. I helped to create graphics for a blog and write a short weather summary to accompany them. Working on the checkouts, I learnt to effectively and politely communicate with different types of customers, and to be quick and efficient during busy periods. I helped keeping fridges and the shop floor tidy and well stocked. I learnt important teamwork skills by working with other staff members to keep the store running as efficiently, particularly when under pressure. I shadowed the guides and helped with their duties, including preparing the vehicles for bush safaris, helping to check in guests, looking after the horses and generally helping around the hotel. This taught me to be presentable and professional in a new and unfamiliar environment, particularly dealing with guests, and helped me improve my time management skills and to demonstrate independence.
