Having enjoyed 2 years within the society I was elected as President in 2016. My key objectives were to increase awareness and membership whilst improving engagement across each 'planning' cohort as well as other subjects. Having thoroughly enjoyed my brief time at Oakford Homes in 2014, I was fortunate to be offered a month's internship with a view to aiding the technical and land teams with my planning knowledge that I have acquired during my first two years at university and my work at Walsingham Planning. To date, I have contributed to viability assessments and planning summaries in order to justify acquiring land upon which to build Oakford's award-winning homes. I was lucky enough to secure a summer internship at the globally award-winning Architecture/Master-planning experts, Broadway Malyan. It served as an incredible insight into where my university degree could take me outside the UK, having contributed to projects in Abu Dhabi, Canada, Guinea and Mozambique. It was a great experience to be a part of a genuine master-planning team and to see how a project goes from conception to completion, as I saw with Jubail Island in Abu Dhabi. My time at Broadway Malyan has provided me with renewed direction with regards to choosing and completing my Masters degree and what I could achieve in the future. Show less

After completing my first year of my university course I decided that I wanted to do a Placement Year after my second year of study. Walsingham Planning, a town planning consultancy with a track record with leisure and public sector clients, offered a great opportunity and I knew that it would compliment my study immensely. My role included research on projects, obtaining planning histories and policy documents in order to assist the Consultants with preparing and submitting planning applications, appeals and objections. I gained valuable experience answering correspondence, email and telephone queries whilst dealing with all of the issues that arise in the development process. I have learned a great deal about the practicalities of the planning process in a challenging and fast moving environment. I shadowed a number of senior staff at meetings and site visits to better understand the projects in which I became heavily involved. Show less

Whilst studying at University, I took a part-time job with M&S Simply Food, Beaconsfield to assist with my fees. Following an induction I was offered the role of Customer Assistant. The position allowed me to work on the tills, the shop floor and to interface with customers. During my time I was proud to receive recognition from management for my efforts in Customer Service, which came in the form of a 'Spotlight Award', one of only 12 handed out to staff during the year.
