The Alere Group of Companies develops, manufactures and sells medical diagnostic devices, concentrating on rapid, point of care medical devices. I provide general legal advice to the Group, which includes: - Liaising extensively with all levels of the business throughout the UK to assist in the management of legal and business risk, and to resolve legal and business issues. - Drafting and negotiating domestic agreements such as distribution, supply, clinical study, service, consultancy, and confidentiality agreements. - Intellectual Property advice to colleagues (including scientists), including the drafting and negotiation of research service, research collaboration and material transfer agreements. - Providing corporate advice such as advising directors regarding responsibilities and obligations, maintaining company books drafting intra group agreements, liaising with auditors regarding internal policies, and filing of corporate documents. - Delivering legal training to Alere Toxicology Plc (the toxicology division of Alere) in respect of marketing claims. - Instructing and liaising with external solicitors when specialist advice is necessary. - Acting as first legal point of contact for Alere Toxicology Plc. This role has given me exposure to a wide breadth of legal issues generated in the day to day running of the business. - I am currently on secondment working at Shoosmiths LLP (Reading), in order to gain litigation experience as part of my training contract.
