Project Manager: ACT-NOW (Anti-Cancer Treatment - Nationally Organised Workstreams) Programme
-
Jan 2020 - Present
ACT-NOW is a multi-year programme to enhance nationally collected chemotherapy data, analysis and reporting capabilities. The medical oncology and haematology community have a need to access information about patient care in a similar way as the radiation oncology community has achieved with the national Radiation Oncology Collection (ROC). ACT-NOW will establish the infrastructure and supporting processes to capture detailed and structured treatment data from chemotherapy providers, and use this data with stakeholders to produce intelligence that will serve as a basis for decision-making that will improve equity, clinical quality and resource utilisation. ACT-NOW is a key initiative contributing towards Te Aho o Te Kahu's mission to improve outcomes for people with cancer and eliminate outcome inequities by 2030, as outlined in the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019-2029. As data lead and project manager for the Ministry of Health National Radiation Oncology Collection and Analytics Project my role is to coordinate a team of 5-6 individuals to plan and deliver a system to centrally collect, store and analyse clinical data on patients receiving radiation therapy across the public and private sector. The purpose of this project is to support three key objectives: o Improved patient access to radiation treatment o Standardisation of treatment protocols o Improved capacity planning of radiation oncology services and infrastructure. My primary role as data lead is to engage with stakeholders, including clinicians, DHB funders and planners and researchers to: o Develop data definitions and data specifications o Design and build a system to centrally collect, validate, store and analyse data at regular intervals o Develop analytics/reports to provide actionable intelligence to stakeholders using Excel, SQL, SAS, and R/RShiny o Present information to stakeholders and assist in its interpretation o Ensuring all aspects of data collection, analysis and dissemination adhere to Ministry polices and legislation such as the Privacy Act and Ministry data access and sharing protocols. o Help develop and execute communications plans. This system is now live and is supporting clinicians and other stakeholders with resource planning, standardising treatment protocols and targeting equity gaps. Show less
