Tutor/Caretaker

My job as a tutor has mainly focussed on helping children with mild to autism who struggled in their day-to-day classes. For two years, I worked one-on-one with a high school child in subjects including mathematics, reading, writing, psychology, sociology, current events, government, and biology. Alongside aiding his academic studies I ensured I developed his social skills so he could function fully in an adult environment. I went above and beyond the scope of the job, building the child’s confidence in day to day tasks such as ordering food or interacting with strangers. During the two years, I witnessed the child’s confidence increase exponentially, and I am extremely proud of my performance in the role. From August 2016 to the present I have taken care of a child with severe autism. I have taken the skills learnt during the first two years and tailored them to this very different task. Due to the nature of the child’s autism, it is my duty to prepare his meals and aide him in going to the bathroom. I have a lot of responsibility as I am solely managing his medication and his allergies during the time I am taking care of him.

Aug 2016 - May 2017
I started working with The State Press as a part-time reporter which included reporting and writing one article a week for the Campus Life desk. I pitched stories, interviewed three or more live sources, did research, and wrote the story. After one semester, I moved up to full-time reporter for the Campus Life desk, which meant that I produced two stories per week. I completed breaking news stories with two-hour deadlines.
