The CEO of Fontarome Chemical expressed an interest in having me take on a few shorter-term projects, and I decided to return to Fontarome for a time while I explored other opportunities in the area. Fontarome had grown in scope and size, and I stepped in as Director of Technical Operations to work together with research, manufacturing, and quality. This was an exciting time of collaboration, project management and execution, and contact with customers. I also ran IT projects such as upgrading Fontarome's ERP system and enhancing reporting capabilities. Show less

I built credibility within the Exact/Macola ERP world, and this led to an opportunity to join one of the largest resellers in the country at that time, Algorithm in Columbus, OH. I worked from my home office in Wisconsin proving ERP and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) consulting to high-transaction volume customers within the automotive parts industry. This was during the growth of online collaboration tools, but at the time customers still preferred face-to-face contact. The balance of home office vs. travel shifted toward the road warrior lifestyle with nearly 100% travel. I enjoyed the interactions, gained credibility with customers, and learned a great deal about optimizing the supply chain through EDI communications -- a skill that I still use to this day. • Information Technology Manager
      • 2000 - 2004

I chose to focus on IT for future positions. I find that IT provides an opportunity to collaborate with all areas of the business and impacts the business in a powerful way. In 2000, I joined International Bioflavors, an enzyme-modified dairy flavor manufacturer located in Oconomowoc, WI, reporting to the CFO. At IBF I was a hands-on technology professional and I started honing my strategic skills in IT and business alignment. To round out my business credentials, I completed a MBA at Marquette University in Milwaukee. At IBF I was responsible for managing business systems (Exact/Macola ERP); delivering information to key decision-makers; interacting with all levels of the business; supporting manufacturing, quality, and research; and supporting the IT infrastructure. Part of the intellectual property I created was a product development application used to manage customer specifications, analytical results, generate certificates of analysis, and comply with labeling requirements. I supported the business during a time of rapid growth to acquisition and systems integration by Givaudan Flavors, a world-class, multibillion dollar flavor and fragrance company. I remained with Givaudan for a time gaining exposure to global IT operations and learning a great deal about IT and project management at a larger organization. Show less

    • Director of Quality Assurance / IT Manager
      • 1994 - 2000

In 1994 I joined Fontarome Chemical, a flavor/fragrance chemical and active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturer with operations in St. Francis, WI and Paris, France. Fontarome provided an excellent opportunity for a young professional to gain experience in many areas of the business beginning with manufacturing as a chemical production operator and through the course of several promotions ultimately as Director of Quality Assurance. I was concurrently finishing a BS degree in Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. The real-world experience combined with the education was exceptionally helpful and provided opportunities for growth and leadership at Fontarome as well as UWM. ***Highlights*** Strategic IT partner with the business leading critical technology initiatives: selection and implementation of new ERP system (Ross Systems); analytical software and laboratory data systems driving compliance and efficiencies; developed a specification management system, CoA generation system, MSDS tracking system streamlining business processes. Provided leadership and direction for Quality Assurance laboratory. Selected, implemented, validated state-of-the-art laboratory instrumentation to support business needs: GC, HPLC, FTIR, KF, autotitrators. Developed and validated specifications and analytical methods for raw materials, critical control points in manufacturing process, and finished goods. Developed and maintained key customer and supplier relationships with an emphasis on strategic partnership throughout the supply chain. Accountable for regulatory compliance (cGMP, FDA, DEA, USP, EP, JP, Kosher) and inspections. Consistently successful regulatory inspection and customer visit history. Show less
