  Praised as a “stand out” (Opera News) and “magnificent” (Talk in Broadway), Romanian-American bass-baritone Alex Soare is enjoying an exciting international opera career. Recently, Alex was honored with Third Place at the Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition and also traveled to Barcelona as a Finalist for the Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition. In 2022 will make his Carnegie Hall debut in New York City to perform the role of Der Tod from Kaiser von Atlantis, earlier this year he also reprised Leporello in productions of Don Giovanni for Opera Carolina and Opera Grand Rapids, performed the role of Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia with Sacramento Philharmonic, and was seen in Chicago Opera Theatre’s Carmen and Becoming Santa Claus. As a soloist, he performed in the concert Shakespeare in Cleveland with CIM. Larter this season, Mr. Soare can be seen as Escamillo in Anchorage Opera’s production of Carmen. Most recently, Mr. Soare has performed Opera Hong Kong, Florida Grand Opera, Nashville Opera, Opera Saratoga, Des Moines Metro Opera, Opera North, Aspen Music Festival, Cedar Rapids Opera Theater, and Finger Lakes Opera, Brava Opera Theater. Mr. Soare is an award recipient of the Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition, Mary Jacobs Smith Singer of the Year competition, The National Society of Arts and Letters, The Bel Canto Foundation, Sherrill Milnes Opera Idol Competition, and The Romanian National Song Competition. He has been a finalist for Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition and The Marcello Giordani Vocal Competition. Alex completed studies at the Transilvania University of Brașov, Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria and Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Show less

At Chicago Summer Opera, we offer training in role preparation, vocal technique, dramatic preparation, audition technique, and stage movement. In addition to the main stage productions, the program will offer staged scenes and one act operas with piano.
