  This position involved the setting up and characterising of a cosmic ray detector system. Cosmic rays are high energy particles which continually pass through the atmosphere. The origin and large energy of some of these particles remains a mystery and so their study is of great interest. The project involved setting up a series of scintillation detectors with accompanying software with the aim of allowing the detectors to be used as an undergraduate laboratory experiment. This meant a vast range of accompanying documentation regarding operation and possible observations was produced to aid future students. Show less
