The Foundry is a Makerspace and a practical classroom where students are encouraged, aided by technology to design and explore endless possibilities in a safe and supportive learning environment. This ‘hands on’ learning approach has been developed in response to the current education focus on developing skills in STEM subjects, particularly with female students.It has been my privilege to develop this facility at Meriden school from its beginnings. I wrote a successful funding application which provided funds to assist the purchase of supplies for the makerspace program. I have researched and purchased equipment for the space, written and implemented appropriate WHS policies, and directed and assisted classes in the space. I am also required to undertake the upkeep of technology used including a number of 3D printers. I am continually researching and learning new technologies including VR and 3D modelling/ printing, so as to teach and demonstrate these concepts to students. Show less
