      • Sep 2017 - Apr 2021

Employed as an Intermediate Architectural Technologist for a home builder immediately implies the typical workplace tasks were assigned with the intent of swift and accurate work being produced. Specifically, permit sets of multi-unit townhouse developments and standard drawings for single family homes of various levels of complexity. In addition, the quick completion of customized spec deals and providing sales with additional information to maintain the potential and mutual benefit of a sale. In contrast to my previous experience, however, it also meant adapting to new corporate standards (be they technical within AutoCAD or within the office) and larger corporate environments where effective team cooperation is key to pushing projects forward. Additionally, reinforcing the positives and negatives that my own experience provides to contribute to updating those policies. While interaction with clients and trades has been reduced by being in this position it instead provides a direct line toward construction practices, more idealized drawing standards, and customer intent. This position also provides the opportunity to develop my skills to not only create new plans but understand the more advanced capabilities of AutoCAD itself. This includes creating LISP routines which streamline frequently occurring processes (slope calculations, drawing imperial units in metric drawings, etc) and tools which ensure drawings are up-to-date (full server automatic bulk block redefinition and synchronization, all within AutoCAD). Designing these tools and understanding the fundamentals of the program with the intention of improving existing workflow processes to remove common drafting errors automatically means not only improving the bottom-line for the company but the ability to effectively manage greater and more diverse elements as they arise. This, as a personal goal, is to ensure I continue to grow and develop my career. Innovative, technical, and sagacious.

    • Designer
      • Apr 2015 - Aug 2017

Employed as a designer under an architect, primarily using AutoCAD, to create and manipulate working drawings for projects of various scales. Initial projects included commercial renovations, additions, and development permit applications whereas further experience allowed me to excel at client interaction, creating building permit/construction sets, as well as 3D massing and visualizations for review. In addition, spearheading townhouse projects, finding appropriate solutions to complex problems, all while facing newly implemented bylaws and building code elements requiring quick and cost-effective alterations to be made. This includes file organization and structure, building assemblies, energy code compliance, and being an effective liaison between client, trades, and municipalities. Ranging from single unit commercial projects to large scale multi-family developments, this position not only solidified my desire to work as a designer but laid out the base to develop the required skills to develop my professional career.

      • Feb 2015 - Mar 2015

As I looked for work in my field I took on a position of Security Escort at the Calgary International Airport. The position focused on ensuring the safety of passengers and crew, via enforcement of proper Transport Canada regulations, while new terminal construction and concourse renovations took place. Requiring full background security checks, CSIS clearance, and another airside vehicle permit this position brought with it a substantially higher level of professionalism and inherent responsibility which remained at the very foundation of the every position that followed.

Summer employment in an area exceptionally different than my academic studies. As a result, those 4 months definitely provided the most beneficial work place learning experience thus far. While tasks involved IT and GIS related work, the majority was focused on learning, creating, and managing an inventory database for the IT components under Rocky View County.
