Synthetization of Prussian Blue Analogue (PBA) crystals. Possible applications of PBAs include military, medical, and sustainability/energy storage industries. Through scientific literature review, I am searching for methods to cheaply and quickly create similar micro magnets. Side project: pressed yttrium barium copper oxide (YBCO) superconducting pellet, wet-soldered platinum microwires onto said pellet, and graphed the pellet’s characteristics in Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS) machine (by Quantum Design Inc.). Selected to participate in Summer Scholars REU, a paid undergraduate research program sponsored in part by ViaSat Inc., a multi-billion dollar communications company. Worked independently in condensed matter physics lab on materials science type assignment: synthesizing Prussian Blue analogue (PBA) crystals. Very structured program: regular updates to advisors, presentations to other students, and final poster presentation to community. Honed skills in complex crystal synthesis, Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) usage, and advanced physics/chemistry lab skills. Subsequent measuring proved to be successful in characterizing crystal’s photo-induced magnetism (done at Quantum Design Inc.). Show less
