The Choosing Wisely initiative was funded by the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation. The purpose of this project is to help physicians and patients engage in conversations aimed at reducing unnecessary tests and procedures. Support for the grant program comes from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). I was responsible for the day-to-day operations of this initiative and was responsible for the evaluation of the educational efforts and the dissemination of information. Since the inception of this program, we have developed 5 educational toolkits designed to assist learners with the content of the recommendation and how to apply the recommendation in patient care. These toolkits have been primarily used for educating residents and students, but we have also created a faculty development component for each one. Our efforts have been shared at both regional and national meetings.
