  In my role as a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Sailing Instructor, I held a position of significant responsibility at a prestigious sailing club on the Isle of Wight. Over the busy high-season period, I was entrusted with the sailing education of young cadets and adults. The role required a sound theoretical understanding of sailing techniques and safety protocols, coupled with the capacity to inspire a new generation of sailors. Training sessions were planned to balance the rigorous practical instruction with a fun-filled, engaging learning environment. The curriculum I delivered was multifaceted, extending beyond the fundamentals of sailing to cover vital topics such as maritime safety, teamwork, and self-confidence when facing what might be unpredictable conditions out at sea. My experience as an instructor has provided me with a nuanced understanding of collaboration and leadership, as well as underscoring the importance of education, its transformative potential, and the invaluable, lasting impact it leaves on both teacher and learner.
