      Coming to the UK to work as a supply teacher provided a very diverse experience and its own set of challenges which I enjoyed tackling. Along with adjusting to the new curriculum, working with so many different schools, staff, and pupils exposed me to a wide range of valuable ideas and school and pedagogical systems. Supply teaching meant I had to: learn names very, very quickly adopt new strategies for behaviour management (such as not knowing names…) improvise effectively and create lessons on the fly when lesson plans don’t come through or go according to plan teach a wide range of year levels as well as adapt very quickly in terms of curriculum, pedagogy and behaviour management (not uncommon to have 4 different year levels in a single day) Show less

      I started working at Hobsonville School in 2017, independently taking on a Year 4 class. It was a wonderful experience learning the fundamentals of setting up and running a class. In term 3, I had the opportunity to team teach in a new entrants class, an experience hitherto absent from my training. Here I refined positive classroom management in a large class of 50 and enjoyed a highly positive and productive working relationship with two other teachers. In 2018, I continued refining my ability to captivate young minds in my own new entrants class, and relished the chance to set up my own classroom and experiment new techniques and programs.
