In July 2004 I began Colossus Consulting (at that time, a sole proprietorship with no separate legal identity from me, and the name was a DBA) as a vendor of business intelligence and database maintenance services. I incorporated as a Delaware LLC in partnership with Thomas Carpe in Jan 2005, adding custom software development to our services. Magellan Health Services provides managed care services specific to behavioral health, on behalf of health insurance companies. At Magellan Health Services I was a business analyst in the EDI division, working on formatting and translation of incoming client files, as well as testing Magellan's proprietary Windows-based client-server software and running reports for clients on the data in the SQL Server backend database. I was heavily involved in the transition to HIPAA compliance in 2002-2003 and worked heavily with translations from and to the 834, 837i, 937p, 270/271, and other standards. In early 2003, Magellan made the corporate decision to shift away from the Windows-based client-server product I was supporting and toward a mainframe-based product. I stayed on to help the mainframe team complete the transition to HIPAA compliance and left in November 2003 after the transition was complete. Clients of Magellan's that I worked with included Carefirst BCBS of MD, Highmark Western PA, and the FEP program. Show less

Kelly Waldron Inc. was a list brokerage primarily concerned with healthcare-related mailing lists. I worked on the NP/PA list primarily (Nurse Practitioner/Physician's Assistant), performing list hygiene and enhancement with outside data sources, although I also did work with the AMA (American Medical Association)'s list of physicians. In August 1999 I moved, and left the company in October 1999 because the commute was too long, although I continued to work for them as an independent consultant through the end of 1999. Show less

Karl Analytics was the subdivision of the Walter Karl Companies that dealt with business intelligence. We took mailing lists and customer lists, worked with Walter Karl's subdivision LMC (List Maintenance Corporation) to clean and update the data, enhanced them with outside sources of data, and performed statistical analysis on them, or loaded them into a database and ran reports for our clients. Walter Karl sold LMC and Karl Analytics to Database America in 1998, and shortly afterward Database America was acquired by InfoUSA, after which Karl Analytics was shut down and I left the company. My clients at Karl Analytics included MCI (later MCI Worldcom), Abbott Laboratories, Citibank, and Harrah's. Show less
