      • May 2022 - Aug 2022

Second-time EMERGE summer intern for Rice University's Baker Institute at the Center for Health and Biosciences. I continue building my relationships in the domestic health policy program and co-leading an independent project on a topic for the summer. - Researcher in an investigation of trends concerning potential savings for employer-sponsored health insurance. We find that the rise of insurance premiums since 1999 has been faster than both wages and inflation, leading to a deep need to identify potential savings opportunities. We focus on opportunities based on proven best practices and dependent on a variety of factors, including company size and industry reliance on capital or labor. I again co-authored our report, which is titled "Estimating the Potential Profit Gains from Lowering Employee Health Care Costs for America’s Largest Companies." - Attended the 2022 American Society of Health Economists Conference (ASHEcon) as part of the team from the Baker Institute to learn more about the industry and how recent developments inform our past and current research. • Domestic Health Policy Analyst Intern (Summer 2021)
      • May 2021 - Dec 2021

EMERGE summer intern at the Baker Institute Center for Health and Biosciences working primarily as a research assistant for health economics research. - Researcher for an independent investigation of hospital compliance with CMS price guidelines and variation of prices for different procedures across regions and hospital quality. We often found weak correlations between quality and price and determined that there is a clear potential to benefit patients and insurance plan sponsors by increasing price transparency across all hospitals. This is noted in the May 2022 Baker Institute Policy Report "Comparing Prices and Price Transparency Among Top-Ranked Hospitals and Close Competitors," which I co-authored. - Assistance for Vivian Ho, Ph.D. (James A. Baker III Institute Chair in Health Economics), in compiling and maintaining a list of recent prominent health economics literature to be taught in a Ph.D. class - Clarification of missing or unclear health claims data for another project Show less
