Alan was a champion for the emergency management program at DSHS and led not only his division but also those who were not his direct reports. Despite excelling at his normal duties Alan ensured that his office would be able to provide it's crucial service during any contingency. It was a pleasure to partner with him,

Alan is an astute observer of human behavior, organization, and needs. He understands our societal and cultural structure and is committed to preserving the good. I so appreciate Alan's determination to do what is right and his persistence in working for that in which he believes, economic stability and administrative integrity. He is a dedicated and capable man.

Alan Kiest is a caring, innovative leader of people. He places a high priority on aligning limited resources around the goal of client service. The Community Services Office administered by Alan provides essential support to unemployed and disabled citizens of Washington—a safety net during these stressful, economic times. While providing client services, Alan finds ways to develop his staff to become more effective professionals. The State of Washington is fortunate to have the many talents of this dedicated leader.
