Al is a great artist to have on any team, always there to share his knowledge and help with valuable ideas for problem solving. He excels in all aspects of character and object creation, and has a vast knowledge of 3DS Max, XSI, Photoshop Mudbox and ZBrush to name but a few. I worked with Al at Venom games for 4 years and in that time his work was exceptional and inspiring.

This is my own little company I have been running since 1997. Mainly producing sculptures and models in both the virtual and real world. Past projects include all manner of game assets for interactive 3d learning games, major revamp of museum sculpture displays and a limited edition of 2D artwork. Past clients include Disney, Royal Doulton, Paramount Studios, Border Fine Arts, Enesco and M.B.I inc. In the past, I have subcontracted a number of Sculptors and Modelmakers depending on workloads and take on a project management role.

Senior Artist working on Eve Valkyrie VR game. Main responsibilities being the creation of both hard edge and organic modelling, character creation and texturing. Character creation involved rigging, skinning, and basic animation. Base meshes are prepared in 3ds Max, Sculpted in Zbrush and Textured in Substance Designer. Assets are then imported and assembled in Unreal UE4.

Character Art creation which involved rigging, skinning, zbrush sculpting and texturing. This role involved a lot of technical character set up. I was responsible for using our own in house software to set up random characters. The role was very wide and involved everything from editing code in our character generator to producing realistic sculptures and photographic texture sets with a great amount of skinning along the way. A hugely rewarding job as the tasks were so varied.

I worked with this company for almost 9 years and in this time I generated a massive amount of sculpted product that was branded and sold under my own name. These products have made over $20 million at retail. The products included garden sculptures, collectables and interior decor sculptures. Examples can be seen here

    • Ice sculptor / Kitchen Artist
      • Jan 1989 - Jan 1994

I started this job whilst I was attending Cleveland College of Art and Design and It became my holiday job all the way through College and University. After I graduated I moved into the role on a full-time basis. Main responsibilities were to produce decorative sculptures to compliment banquets and formal dinners. These sculptures would be made mainly from Ice. Butter and margarine sculptures were also very common (sculpts like clay) and occasionally I would venture into the world of sugar pastes for super detailed small scale sculpture. Blown sugar (similar to blown glass) was also a skill I acquired which I enjoyed very much. During my time here I produced a huge Bear sculpt for 'Children in Need' that was transported to BBC Tv centre weighing over half a tonne. Another highlight was winning the bronze medal at Le Salon De Culinaire international catering competition at Earls Court London for food sculpture.
