Alaina worked with Political Science Professor Laurie Freeman to analyze magazine illustrations throughout the Trump Administration. She uses MaxQDA to code over 300 magazine covers across 20+ variables. She plays a vital role in the literature collection/review and coding processes. She also guest lectured in Professor Freemans Comparative Media and Politics course to present her current findings. At Thaddeus, Alaina worked across a number of roles. Primarily, Alaina worked in direct communication with Executive Director to coordinate nonprofit functions across multiple departments. Specifically, she facilitated departmental meetings, updated all department procedure manuals with new procedure changes, and presented those changes to all departments. Alaina also served as the lead of the Community Engagement team. She developed new procedures for tracking social media analytics across multiple networks. Alaina worked with Political Science Professor Clayton Nall to analyze city council participation rates beginning with the stay-at-home order issued in March 2020. She used publicly city registrar records to collect data on how many individuals attended and spoke at the online meetings. She also analyzed the participation rates in local 2020 elections, including which issue areas seemed to be valued most by voters. All of the above was collected and interpreted using Microsoft Excel and R Studio.

As President of the Students Affirming Social Justice club at Monte Vista High School, Alaina helped to organize various progressive efforts such as donating menstrual projects to incarcerated women and the 2018 March For Our Lives Protest. She also worked with the school principal to restructure the discriminatory school dress code while adhering to district requirements. Her goal was to help ignite discussions and spread awareness of injustices across campus by providing a safe space for discussion. She collaborated with other clubs such as the Black Student Union and the Muslim Student Association to prioritize minority voices within the school.
