I have had the pleasure of working with Akyanna in multiple capacities- first, in her role as President of Emmanuel's OUTspoken (LGBT advocacy organization), later as an Orientation Leader welcoming new students to campus during the summer of 2013, and later as the Resident Assistant for the Notre Dame Service and Spirituality Living-Learning Community (for which I serve as Program Facilitator). I am wholly and consistently blown away by the dedication and attentiveness with which Akyanna attacks each opportunity presented to her. She is admired greatly by her fellow students for her caring and considerate nature, and by faculty and administrators she encounters for her dependability and ability to be reflective. She pursues student leadership with the pure goal of helping others, and her efforts are extraordinarily well received by her peers. Akyanna is a significant asset to any environment she enters, and she has earned my highest recommendation.

    • Resident Assistant
      • Aug 2013 - May 2015

As a Resident Assistant for Emmanuel College, I oversaw two different communities. During my first year as a Resident Assistant, I was placed at an off-campus residence hall at another college on our consortium. I was paired with two other RA's from Emmanuel and an RA from that school to make sure our floors could co-exist together, despite being from different schools. During my second year as a Resident Assistant, I was the first RA to be placed at Emmanuel's new residence hall located in Fort Hill, the Notre Dame Campus. This campus was the Living and Learning Community for Spirituality and Engagement. Here, I was the only RA and had a unique programming model in which we combined community service, reflection, and programming to make it a unique community for the residents. In both of these capacities, I worked closely with my supervisor and a staff of RAs to bounce ideas off of and touch base with to keep up with what was going on, on campus. As an RA, my biggest roles were program coordinating and upholding college conducts. Show less

    • Orientation Leader
      • Jan 2013 - Sep 2013

As an Orientation Leader, I spent every Friday from January to April, training on different college policies, offices/departments, and how to interact with first year students to hold four different Orientation sessions in the Summer. I was paired with another Orientation and we had small groups of 10-15 students. We held sessions on Residence Life and Diversity to get them used to the Emmanuel College student climate. We helped them create their first semester schedules. We answered any questions they had about college, Emmanuel, or Boston in general. And we made ourselves available throughout the year if they had anymore questions or problems. Show less
