  Inspect locomotive, before and after runs.Diagnose minor breakdowns and perform minor service and maintenance when required; report major mechanical malfunctions and coordinate with associated departments to correct safety and mechanical issues as needed.Diagnoses malfunctions in diesel engines {engine fuel system( fuel strainer, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injection pump, fuel injector/nozzles , pressure relief valve and regulating valve) , engine air intake system( Suction air filter, turbocharger and intercooler) engine lubricating oil system( lube oil pump, lube oil filter tank, lube oil cooler) engine cooling system (water pump, radiator and radiator fan)}. Check compression test and record compression pressure of all cylinder liner.Inspect fuel injection timing and adjust valve tappet clearance.Visually inspect connecting rod and main bearings.Check cam shaft deflection and record. Check crankshaft thrust and record.Diagnoses malfunctions in air supply system and air compressor (3CD Air compressor, 6-CD3UC Air Compressor/Exhauster).Dismantle both inlet and discharge valves thoroughly clean any carbon build up replace inlet and discharge valves with new set of valves.Check brake blocks, slack adjuster.Inspect all air hoses to break block units for defects and leaks.Diagnoses malfunctions in flexi float bogie trucks and traction motors or other components to determine nature of problem and needed repair or replacement.Inspect all oil dampers, all coil springs (primary coil springs, secondary coil springs) and its supports.Inspect screw coupling and buffers.Inspect journal boxes for defects.Inspect visually wheel defects with the help of wheel defect gauge.Maintain written and computer records for maintenance and repairs as required. Performs trip inspection, monthly inspection, three monthly inspection, six monthly inspection, and annual inspection on locomotive.Understand shunting and driving duties as required. Show less
