Yao is a technical leader par excellence. He was a guide, a mentor to me and many others on our team. His technical expertise and experience was unmatched and everyone respects him for that. I learnt a lot from working together with Yao. I have seen him tackle some really complicated problems with creativity. But he also taught me to not over-engineer and that simple solutions are usually the best ones. He made sure we kept one eye on code quality. When dealing with technical problems, he never loses sight of the goal. He gave every opportunity and encouragement to his team members to advance and grow. He was always available when help and guidance was needed. I have seen him work with extreme ease across multiple timezones and with global teams. I have tremendous respect for his talent, leadership and work ethic. His patience, expertise and leadership made me think of problems in a new light and helped me grow. I thank him wholeheartedly for that.

Unica (acquired by IBM) offers a suite of applications and services for the marketing industry. I worked on Unica's Marketing Operations On Demand (MOOD) solution and its counterpart in the Interactive Marketing On Demand suite, which was developed with vi. Technologies used for MOOD include: Java, Oracle, XSL, javascript, HTML, JBoss, and tomcat. Oh, more buzzwords: agile and scrum. MarketingCentral (acquired by Unica) is the undisputed leader in on-demand Marketing Resource Management. It is a SaaS offering that supports marketing automation, collaboration, and approval. Key functions of the software that I worked on include: user permissions with Oracle stored procedures, annotation of flash and video files with javascript, and performance metrics. Java, XSL, HTML, javascript, and SQL were developed with Eclipse running on tomcat, JBoss, and Oracle. Metavante is a Wisconsin based bank operations and management company. When Metavante acquired Brokat's Consumer Internet Banking (CIB) and Corporate Banking divisions, I held the role of Lead Architect for CIB. I worked to integrate the IBM Websphere based CIB Java application with the company's existing OFX engine and mainframe systems. There were frequent commutes to Milwaukee where we addressed developer training, system integration, and production performance needs. Brokat (NA acquired by Metavante) is a software company specializing in customer facing applications for the banking industry. I worked on the Consumer Internet Banking (CIB) application and its OFX engine. As the name would imply, CIB allows a bank customer to access their accounts and perform banking transactions. CIB was developed using emacs (no holy wars, please) to create Java, XML, SQL, HTML, XSL, Javascript. It ran on IBM Websphere and used Oracle as its database. While at Daugherty, I worked on a myriad of projects and assignments, from 3 person, "Mom and Pop," operations in Buckhead to multi-billion dollar corporations in Atlanta. The technologies were chosen to fit the situation, and ranged from Microsoft Visual Basic with Access, to Java with Oracle, and a little shell scripting included. The industries were equally diverse with clients in Telecommunications, Insurance, and Shipping.
