I made the decision to 'go it alone' as a Freelance PLC Programmer in 2003 and as a result gained valuable Control Systems experience throughout several different industries. Working across industry but with a big emphasis on Water and Waste Water, designing and commissioning PLC & HMI applications from scratch including Waste Water inlet house and wash water works, PID level control of pumping stations, chemical delivery systems. All projects were carried out using Allen Bradley SLC 500 or Siemens S7 300 PLCs and I completed all the necessary documentation (FDS etc) and carried out operator training in full on all projects. I also worked with Telemetry / SCADA data collection and monitoring systems, incorporating tags within PLC code and full onsite commissioning of systems. I gained further experience within the packaging, automotive and process control industries as well as different PLC types.

I left Vivitech in 2003 where I worked for nearly eight years travelling extensively throughout the country and working on projects for customers including Ford Motor Company, BMW, Massey Ferguson and Astra Zeneca. I started this position straight out of Uni and my job involved all aspects of Control Systems work including PLC Software design, installation, commissioning, standby and support cover. It was very much a junior role at first, yet I felt incredibly fortunate to be involved with so many fascinating projects which inspired and opened my eyes to the world of Automation and Controls! During this time I mainly worked with Allen Bradley PLC systems such as SLC500, PLC 5 and Control Logix platform PLCs. I also gained extensive knowledge of designing and implementing HMI Software applications. I designed numerous Allen Bradley / Rockwell PLC programs from scratch and gained a small amount of experience with other types of Programmable Logic Controllers. I predominantly worked in the automotive manufacturing industry including machine tools and material handling applications.
