I worked part-time with the Menzies foundation assisting them with their communication and project management around a range of scholarships, events and partnerships. Core responsibilities included working with the Communications Manager to further alumni engagement and showcase the achievements of our alumni with existing and potential donors, partner organisations and other audiences. I worked with the Operations Manager to deliver the Foundation’s scholarship programs across the fields of Engineering, Allied Health, Law and International law and with the Menzies Foundation team to further existing programs and partnerships and develop new projects that fit with the Foundation's philosophy of supporting academic excellence, leadership and engagement. Conferences I have organised and run media rooms at several international conferences including the High Energy Physics conference where the discovery of the Higgs Boson particle was announced. Working with the Science in Public team, I secured extensive coverage in both niche and mainstream media via TV and radio interviews and online and print articles which resulted in high visibility for the conference as a whole and discussion of the key themes. Science prizes I have managed Science in Public's portfolio of national science prizes from developing and promoting the call for nominations through to arranging interviews for recipients and providing on-the-ground media training and guidance. While managing these prizes I executed the Science in Public strategy: increasing the awareness of the prize within the industry and science community; targeted and tailored communication to achieve a continual increase in the number of nominees and applicants; managed high-profile award ceremonies and events; and developed and pitched stories resulting in the prizes and recipients receiving greater coverage via national TV, print and online media, radio, and the trade press. Press calls and launches I have managed several press calls for both science prize recipients and launches of new facilities while working both at Luna Media and Science in Public. At each of these events we developed networks both within industry and between journalists and institutions, provided ad-hoc media training and guidance for talent and worked with journalists and the client to provide material, graphics and photo/video opportunities. Event management I have worked on several high profile events such as the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science and Australian Museum Eureka Prizes award ceremonies, public forums by international figures such as the head of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation and developed and managed multi-day events such as FameLab Australia. Publishing I have worked with award winning publisher Luna Media – producers of COSMOS magazine and former producer of G – The Green Lifestyle magazine. While working for Luna Media I managed the production of the ‘Green Book’. This supplement was an annual directory of sustainability products and services offered within Australia and received the supplement of the year award at the 2008 Publishers Australia Bell Awards. Marketing I have experience in the development and execution of electronic and print direct marketing campaigns; print and online subscription campaigns and; marketing of magazines at festivals. I have developed successful retail, subscription and renewal offers including merchandising, cost analysis, reader surveys and reporting. In conjunction with a web development team I created an online store for COSMOS magazine which enabled users to purchase single or bulk subscriptions and merchandise. I successfully managed this process from concept to delivery of the website. In 2010 I worked with the publisher to transfer the subscriptions database from a third party provider to an in-house management system. This involved: setting up new databases and training staff in their use; liaising with the third party provider to transfer subscribers on to the new system; troubleshooting throughout the process; and providing regular reports to the publisher.
