As an Advisory member, I provide valuable insights and expertise on regional developments, particularly in feminist and political spheres, to support Purposeful's participatory approaches. My role involves co-creating grantmaking strategies that address the diverse needs and priorities of various communities and groups. I facilitate outreach and communication in my region to ensure that marginalized girls and young people have access to resources and support, and I collaborate with movements in the region to build solidarity and share resources. I also provide input on funding application design to ensure that even nascent and hard-to-reach groups have equal access to the application process. I actively participate in reflection sessions and provide feedback to help improve the evaluation of applications from one grant cycle to another. As a member of the Advisory team, I am responsible for reviewing, scoring, commenting, and prioritizing all eligible applications received based on Purposeful's core values and funding priorities. Additionally, I work closely with other advisors on a regional panel to finalize results and make decisions on grant allocation during funding moments throughout the year. In my role, I also support the design and implementation of Purposeful's accompaniment program, which provides additional support and resources to grantees beyond financial assistance. I participate in advocacy spaces and engage with other funders, contributing my deep regional expertise to Purposeful's Theory of Change. Furthermore, I document and amplify the Advisory and accompaniment journeys, as well as the work of grantee partners, by sharing insights and learnings to use in philanthropic influencing activities. Finally, I co-design and co-facilitate learning calls with grantee partners during each funding round, helping to build capacity and foster community among Purposeful's grantees. Show less

During my time as a member of the Ministry of Education in Dewan Muda Malaysia under UNDI 18, I played a variety of roles and had the opportunity to make a positive impact in various ways. Some of the key roles I played include : - Researching and analyzing current policies and practices related to education, with a particular focus on issues related to gender and marginalized communities. -Developing and implementing programs and initiatives aimed at promoting greater equity and inclusion within the education system, such as workshops and training sessions for teachers and school administrators. -Collaborating with other members of Dewan Muda Malaysia and other organizations to raise awareness about issues related to education and advocate for policy changes at the national level. -Engaging with stakeholders from various sectors to gather feedback and insights on education-related issues, and incorporating this feedback into our programs and initiatives. -Participating in meetings and forums to share my perspectives and insights on education-related issues, and to learn from others working in the field. -Conducting research and analysis on the impact of our programs and initiatives, and using this information to continually refine and improve our approach. Overall, my time at Dewan Muda Malaysia was an incredibly rewarding experience that allowed me to develop my skills as a leader and advocate for positive change within the education system. I am proud of the work I was able to accomplish during this time, and I am committed to continuing to work towards a more equitable and inclusive education system in the future. Show less

During my discussion session with Siti Aishah Hassan Hasri, the founder of Spot Community Programme, I emphasized the importance of comprehensive sexuality education in schools and highlighted the issue of rape jokes. I asked Siti Aishah to comment on how the normalisation of such jokes in schools violates bodily autonomy. Rape jokes normalise sexual violence as something that is funny and permissible, and violate boundaries and the right to do what you want with your body. I believe that rape jokes play a role in normalising such criminal acts and may even lead to rape threats. Show less
