As a fellow for the Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program with Doris Duke, I am a part of a 20 scholar cohort of individuals who are passionate about conservation and environmental justice. During my first summer, I conducted 4 original ecological research projects in small groups from ideation and experimental design to data analysis and scientific writing and participated in workshops focused on statistical analysis, scientific communication, and conservation storytelling and leadership. As a teacher's assistant for the Los Angeles Unified School District, I had the pleasure of educating the youth in my home neighborhood of Echo Park in Los Angeles. I was able to connect and support with the students in my community and assist them in their education. I oversaw a student body of over 500 students, and frequently created and implemented my own lesson plans for students ranging from K-5.
