Lead Vehicle Software Automation Engineer
-
Dec 2020 - Sep 2021
Led flight operations for new satellite bus platform. Hired and trained a team of 5+ new operators and organized early mission support schedule to ensure mission success and stability. Led projects to optimize future vehicle automation and operations through bringing up Docker/Flask based toolchains, Python/Jinja/Bazel data review frameworks, , and repurposing Starship operations tools to support satellite integration. Spearheaded efforts to design automated control and anomaly detection software by organizing requirements capturing, implementation, and review efforts with avionics hardware design and flight software teams. Jan 2020 - Dec 2020
Coordinated vehicle control requirements scoping for several test milestones including TVAC and EMI, organized more than five sprints of over ten developers from multiple teams to implement and validate all control code, individually implemented and reviewed code as part of each sprint, and lead software release process by executing run for record tests and organizing team-wide data reviews.Wrote vehicle operations procedures, organized shifted operations with on-call support, trained over ten new operators, and worked as primary operator and on-call support for several cumulative months of shifted operations for vehicle tests, including 24/7 operations. Launch Systems Software Engineer
-
Jan 2018 - Oct 2019
Contributed development to C++ finite element fluid simulation software used to validate Falcon 9 launch operations, including: improving stability for arbitrary types of fluid mixtures and REFPROP plugins, adding electrical simulation topology detection and solvers, improving multithreaded simulation ability to tolerate asynchronous solver steps, and improving OpenGL based UI and user requests for more than six teams across the company.Supported bring-up and took ownership of automated Falcon 9 launch simulations run in continuous integration, which were previously done manually by launch engineers before each launch, saving days of engineers’ time per launch.Created real-time aborts analysis tool to assess all possible abort conditions in parallel during simulations, savings hundreds of hours of testing per launch that would have been needed to discover each issue serially.Improved fidelity of automated simulations by adding gas simulations to previous propellant-only tests, and then working with launch team to develop worst-case fault test, which uncovered more than ten different logical errors in automated fault handling.Supported first two “Starhopper” tests by adding algorithms to automatically generate simulation configuration files which were previously maintained by hand, developing algorithms to convert counts to engineering units, and deploying combined launch pad and vehicle sim for operations engineers to validate new automation code.
