Gene is an amazing and unique leader. He is, by far, the best leader I've ever worked with. His ability to entrust tasks to his co-workers will raise productivity to its maximum. Gene is a 'point out of a curve'. He is not a boss. He is a natural born leader. Additionally: His incredible vision with potential clients has let him excel in sales and his experience allows him to know what the client wants before they tell him. His flexibility also allows him to quickly switch tactics if the customer changes their mind about something at the last minute.

I was hired by an event organization whose sales had fallen 60% over its 35 year history. Through a website redesign, optimizing SEO, creating an email campaign, developing a social media presence, hosting event promotions, and personal selling; over two years, I increased every vital metric, and boosted new person attendance 30%, with overall sales increasing 40%. I created a dramatic change and a successful turn around. I can do the same for your organization. Contact me. Gene Evangelist Email :: gevangelist@gmail.com Show less

The Steel City Codefest is an app development event in Pittsburgh. It brings together coders, designers, makers, and innovation enthusiasts who create apps for local non-profit and community organizations. In my volunteer work I organized teams and built apps for InvolveMINT, and the Homewood Children's Village. InvolveMINT.co InvolveMINT created a network where volunteers are rewarded for the hours they volunteer in community service. In my role as adviser and product manager, I built the initial website, and an app. The app displays volunteer opportunities, records credits for volunteer hours, stores those credits in a digital wallet, enabling volunteers to redeem those digital currency credits at local businesses. This app was awarded a Forbes Fund grant. Homewood Children's Village Homewood Children’s Village works to prepare students to graduate from high school, and qualify for the Pittsburgh Promise Scholarship, and then fulfill that promise by earning their college degree. Our team built a fully operational app within one week. The app enabled the creation of a personal profile with educational benchmarks, chat interaction with a mentor, and the development of a personal roadmap to college. Show less

Media Reps is a specialized global ad network. Over one billion ads are served daily on a real-time bidding exchange. The Media Reps ad platform targeted context, location, and device, in any ad format, for mobile, tablet, and web, in 147 countries. We generate over 60,000,000 clicks for our advertisers daily. What I Did I created partnerships with web publishers, and negotiated to obtain ad placement on their websites. Then I designed ad and marketing strategies that matched the product roadmap of our advertisers with the inventory I acquired from the publishers. I also negotiated with ad exchanges to purchase extra inventory needed, and simultaneously sold any excess impressions to Ad exchanges. Our publishers got the highest return on their available ad space, and our advertisers received a cost-effective source for the best ad inventory at the best price. My role was a combination of revenue management, sales, business development, marketing strategy, and media buying. Results I've Had: * Generated as high as a 241% return on ad inventory. * Produced CTRs as high as 21% with mobile interstitial ads. Show less

Webkite is a technology startup in Pittsburgh that created a revolutionary faceted search technology. The Webkite platform transforms small to big data from a single spreadsheet upload or data API into rich interactive websites in as little as 15 minutes. I was brought into Webkite after they had made their first 'pivot'. I created their first sales team. The Challenge: Like a lot of startups that have made a pivot technologically, refining the technological change into a finished product, quickly finding a market, developing a sales strategy, and generating sales within that market was critical. The second challenge is introducing an aggressive new sales process into an established programmers environment that accomplishes objectives while embracing the existing culture. My Solution: Recognizing that I was brought on at this transitional point in Webkite’s evolution, and that time was of the essence; I immediately engaged the CEO and entire team to establish a campaign to sharpen product definition, develop a sales strategy, craft market persona, recruit, train, and manage a sales and business development team, and generate sales revenue. The following: “My First 30 days at Webkite” attachment, shows how I responded to this challenge, and how much I and the Webkite team accomplished together from the start. Show less

When Apple introduced the iPhone it became apparent that the demand for apps was about to explode. The Challenge: Even though there was a tremendous interest in app development, there weren't many people proficient in programming apps. My Solution: I created and organized a networking and programming "think-tank" in a Meetup format for IOS and Android mobile development. We have offered numerous networking and training Meetups for over 400 members. When Apple introduced the iPhone it became apparent that the demand for apps was about to explode. I provided Strategic and Financial Analysis for Medical Technologists and Practices. My consultation has ranged from debt restructure, acquisition funding, and new financing, to the utilization of social media to generate referrals and 5010 implementation. The Challenge: Our entire medical community is going through changes. Nowhere is the problem more visible than in radiology practices; enabling high quality medical service utilizing the latest equipment within an environment of reduced reimbursements requires strategic analysis, planning, and cost containment. My Solution: I analyze current cash, future equipment, technology, and cash needs, and current debts, then determine areas where debt service can be reduced, cash flow increased, and a strategic plan established to prepare for future technological improvements or acquisitions. For example, for an imaging client, I made a number of improvements: including negotiating an $833,000 debt reduction. Through restructure of debt, I reduced monthly debt service from $120,000 to $32,000, a monthly savings to the practice of $88,000 (an annual savings of $1,056,000). I created a net lifetime value to the business of over $5,000,000. Show less

When my partner, Jason Hallman and I, took over a lease at 401 Pine St. we had no idea that we were about to transform a dingy, 9000 sq. ft. antique mall into a collectible and artisan gallery that would become a major Seattle retail icon. We converged attention getting merchandising, (How about a Spaceman, on a salvage hospital table under operating lights, illuminated in the store-window, for Friday night pub-crawlers for starters?) the coolest products, and great customers who 'got us', into events with 1000+ weekend visitors. People have asked why someone involved in mobile, online, and digital marketing, got involved in a retail project…well...Area 51 enabled me to interact with tangible products, and utilize design, in a fascinating physical presentation that resulted in sales. I also relished meeting amazing people and fostering some great relationships, for example: On opening weekend, a customer was buying all my favorite items in the store, as we talked, I asked what she did for a living, she answered: "I'm working on a book". Later, I realized this was Mackenzie Bezos, the book she was working on was Amazon.com. Area 51 has had a steady flow of amazing local and international visitors like Alex Calderwood, Dale Chihuly, Bill Clinton, Peter Nordstrom, and Eddie Vedders, many of whom became friends. With the help of a dedicated, creative, passionate staff, we created a 'Brand' in a noisy retail environment; engineered a unique cultural experience, and became the top grossing store of our kind in the country, and had fun doing it. Through the early 2000's independent Internet Service Providers started to challenge AOL's market dominance. The Challenge: The Independent Internet Service Providers (ISPs) had no Parental Controls type pornography filtering product. My Solution: I developed a database of pornographic websites, installed on a radius server, and created a Software as a Service, SaaS, solution which was sold to ISPs, schools, and directly to internet users…we called the product Smutstopper. I also created EmailForKids.com, which, through a proprietary filtering technology, gave parents a tool to safeguard their children's email. Our solution enabled ISP's to compete with AOL. It was sold directly and via trade shows. We were acquired by a Seattle security products software company, and Smutstopper ultimately became a part of the McAfee suite of security products. I created the first collaborative game development community. The Challenge: Game development is a fascinating and growing area, yet few people have all the skills necessary to create a game. In the 90's, like today, there was a convergence in content, media, and telecommunications. The Opportunity: There was tremendous potential in a blending of content and delivery to phone, TV, and web. The Challenge: Raising capital to fund a series of startup launches. My Solution: I recruited, trained, managed, and motivated over 40 Sales and Business Development Executives who raised investment capital for the projects.through networking, seminars, and direct sales. We had offices in La Jolla, Irvine, and Sausalito, CA. The Results: We successfully raised over $30,000,000 in start-up and seed capital. This was invested to create infomercials, acquire Internet Service Providers, and created the launch of the first Web Portal, which was ultimately sold to the search engine Excite for $565,000,000, a 100X exit. When the cellular network was built in the US, Metropolitan Areas were developed first by the major cellular companies. Research at the time indicated that rural area licenses had negligible value. However, American Wireless Systems recognized the value of these rural areas and acquired their FCC licenses. The Challenge: FCC rules required transmission equipment installed, and signal projected into the license area within 18 months. To enable the equipment installation, American Wireless Systems formed partnerships to raise the required capital. My Solution: My job as a Business Development Account Executive was to raise the capital for the partnerships from investors. My approach was to identify early investors in the major metropolitan cellular companies and early investors in technology startups. Once identified, I did extensive research, crafted presentations, and through PR, communications, and cold calling, motivated these tech investors to invest in our Rural Cellular Partnerships, and subsequently, Wireless Cable TV Partnerships in Minneapolis, Ft. Worth, Dallas, and Pittsburgh. I was consistently successful, and I was awarded 'Highest Sales' of 120 Account Executives. Show less
