For one month I was placed with the responsibility of looking after and leading 29 ten year olds in an American summer camp based in Texas. This role involved leading sessions ranging from fun activities to educational experiences, dealing with any and all altercations between the children, working in a team of ten to ensure everything ran smoothly, managing timings and acting as a representative for the children under my control, when it came to communicating with more senior staff members. This experience allowed me to develop my confidence not only as a leader but as a person, it taught me the importance of speaking and communication and furthermore, proved to me that I can deal with heavy responsibility in a calm and professional manner. Head Boy
-
Apr 2021 - Jun 2022
From the end of year 12, to the end of year 13, I was given the immense privilege of being Head Boy of my secondary school. The application process for Head Boy was one that entailed three tasks. The first was writing a letter to the head teacher of Yavneh college, explaining why it is me that should be the suitable candidate for head boy. Following this, I had to produce a video, effectively selling myself as a candidate. This video was then sent to all students and teachers, in order to give a further insight as to who they should vote for. Finally, each candidate's final task was to undergo an interview conducted by the Head Teacher, Deputy Head of Sixth Form and the previous Head Boy and Head Girl. Evidently, these were all successful stages for me as out of all the male candidates, I was appointed the role of Head Boy for the next school year. The role entailed me working in a team of 5 others, in order to achieve the things we intended on putting into place in the sign up to the role. It was also my job to write and deliver various speeches to visitors to the school, showcasing it in its best light. Finally, I was one of the two student representatives for the entire student body of 1000 students, which meant that people would consistently voice their concerns or ideas to me and it would be my job to try to implement these and pass it on to senior staff. This was a brief, but very beneficial experience. I was given the privilege of being able to observe and learn the way in which a law firm runs, in addition to participating in the day to day errands necessary to ensure everything continued to run smoothly. I was able to talk with the employees and learn from their experiences, sit in on meetings with the law firm's clients and have personal chats with partners of the firm. Examples of responsibilities I was given included learning to fill out varying types of legal forms, reading through and summarising commercial leases, producing completion statements, as well as doing stamp duty land tax calculations. Overall this experience provided me with a great insight into the life of a solicitor, and gave me a basic knowledge that I believe will be very beneficial to me in the future. Show less
