Reporting to the Group General Manager, Abdul was an integral member of the Chemicals Group General Management Team and was responsible for the development of the Groups IT Strategy and the effective management of the Group’s IT investment.Abdul also assumed the role of Project Director for GST compliance of all IT Systems across Orica. This was a Corporate role, reporting to the CFO. The project involved a team of over 50 technical and project managers, reviewing and preparing in access of 90 systems.Abdul was responsible for the development of the Group’s eBusiness Strategy and the subsequent development and deployment of Orica Chemicals Online. Over 2% of the Groups transactions were conducted via the Online Channel within a 6 month period, with a targeted 10% within 2 years. Reporting to the Group CIO, Abdul was responsible for setting up and managing the post implementation SAP support team. Abdul inherited a team of 15 at the tail end of the implementation, with a target ‘end state’ of 10. During the 12 months, Abdul and his team managed to successfully reduce the staffing numbers as well as stabilise the system.The SAP team, under Abdul’s leadership also managed business separation activities associated with two large business divestments. In one instance, a separate SAP environment had to be established to cater for ‘transition’ obligations. This project was successfully delivered on Christmas eve of 1998, with the entire team working 24 hours to deliver against optimistic deadlines. Show less
