My role involves raising the profile of equality, diversity, and inclusion across the organisation, providing advice, support, and constructive challenge. I am also developing and implementing our equality, diversity, and inclusion strategy, plans and policies, having already played a key part in championing equality, diversity, and inclusion in my role as regional engagement lead.

I worked with a range of stakeholders, including employers, people with lived experience of social work, social workers, and education and training providers to ensure the consistent implementation of Social Work England’s professional, education, and training standards, and drive improvement across the region. I provided social work insight into various areas of Social Work England’s work, linking into registration, continuous professional development, fitness to practise, education quality assurance, learning and development, communications, and policy.A highlight of my role has been helping to establish the National Advisory Forum, which includes practising social workers, social work students, people with lived experience of social work and social work education and training providers. The forum provides expert advice, support, and challenge to our work and how we achieve our objectives. The forum demonstrates Social Work England’s commitment to co-production and enables us to root our work in the experience of social workers, people with lived experience of social work, academics, and everyone in the sector. The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse was set up because of serious concerns that some organisations had failed and were continuing to fail to protect children from sexual abuse. The Inquiry has a huge remit, but as a statutory inquiry it has the unique authority to address issues that have persisted despite previous inquiries and attempts at reform. My role involved providing psychologically informed advice, consultation and training to staff in all strands of the Inquiry; project management; managing safeguarding concerns; ensuring the voices of victims and survivors of child sexual abuse were heard; and increasing engagement from diverse communities. Changing Faces is a charity for people and families who are living with conditions, marks or scars that affect their appearance. The charity aims to transform public attitudes towards people with disfigurements. The Yorkshire and Humber Centre, in Sheffield is the first localised support centre outside London which began offering people in the local area access to the unique support in 2013. Originally my role focused on service development and I was seconded to the NHS. I also offered practical & emotional support to children, young people and their families. My role involved providing one to one support, workshops for groups of children, young people and parents, emotional support clinics in hospitals throughout Yorkshire and the Humber, outreach work in the community and support and training for education, social care and healthcare professionals. Changing Faces can help clients to face social situations with confidence, cope with feelings and develop resilience, meet others in similar situations and gain mutual support, fulfil their personal potential, Increase self-esteem and confidence, tackle bullying and discrimination, cope with medical conditions, improve family relationships and parenting and raise awareness in the community about the impact of disfigurement.
