1- Establishment of tissue culture system to study the differential oncogenic effects of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) with and without cancer-related mutations in core protein. This work has been recently published in Journal of Hepatology (El-Shamy et al, 2015) which is the highest journal in Hepatology field. Additionally this work has been presented recently as an Oral presentation in AASLD 2015.2- Using second and third generations of deep sequencing techology to investigate the nature HCV quasispecies of core protein in the relation with hepatocellular carcinoma development among American patients of HALT-C trial. Manuscript of this project is under submission.3- Biophysical characterization of newly discovered HCV protein, minicore secreted in tissue culture media and detection of minicores in patients blood. This work has been presented as two posters in AASLD 2014. Notably, one of both posters was accepted among Late-Breaker posters. Show less

1- Impact of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) genome heterogeneity on development of hepatocellular carcimoma among Japanese patients infected with HCV genotype 1b and followed up for 25 years. This work has been published in Hepatology (El-Shamy et al, 2013). Notably, there was a Hepatology Editorial on this work! 2- Impact of sequence heterogeneity within Interferon/Ribavirin Resistance-determining Region (IRRDR) of NS5A protein on Interferon-based therapy outcome in Egyptian patients infected with HCV genotype 4a and Japanese patients infected with HCV genotype 2. These two project have been published in Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Plos One. 3- In vitro study using HCV-JFH1 infectious system dissecting the molecular mechanism of interferon resistance conferring by IRRDR mutations.
