My attatchment in Institute of Radiotherapy and Oncology, HKL. This institute is one of the main reference centre for cancer patient. During this clinical attachment, I learned and observe various radiotherapy procedure and treatment. i also had the chance to learned about the 3D CT simulation procedure that acquire the patient's CT images for the medical physicist to use for the treatment planning.During this clinical attchment, I had the chance to work out and improve my patient positioning skills and immobilizing device placement on patients with various cancers including head and neck, thorax, pelvis, breast and also extremities. I also had the opportunity to learn about the laser placement on the patient's tatoo and shift the placement to the isocentre. it is important that we need to learn about the laser placement as we need to ensure trhe radiation beam to focus on the cancers at maximum while minimizing the exposure on the normal tissue.I also was assigned to perform 5 case studies on - Head and Neck cancer- Central Nervous system cancer- Respiratory cancer-Breast cancer-Endocrine cancerPerforming these case studies are important as we need to understand on how we treat the cancers. In order to understand, I need to read every case notes and treatment sheet of every patient in the department. by doing this, we can learn more on how to become a good radiation therapist with excellent competency.
