After the ALE acquisition of Sipwise, I led the integration of the Sipwise Cloud PBX solution into the ALE ecosystem. During this time I learned corporate workflows on a management level, which is extremely useful when working with large enterprises. While building a telco vendor startup as our main job, we provided the private storage, network and compute infrastructure to a game streaming company (think Twitch but smaller) on the side for equity. They eventually got acquired, we were happy. My first start-up - what a ride. We set out to build a SIP soft-switch as a product I wished it had existed in my previous job. As a CTO, I learned how to manage technical teams and departments, how to do "product", how to deal with angry customers and how to work with investors. Lots of close bonds were forged during this time, and I realized you can achive everything if you persist and believe in your goals, and most importantly if you've the right people around you to rely on. At Inode/UPC Austria, I had the life-changing opportunity to design, develop and operate a SIP soft-switch from a 100 users lab system to a 100.000 users B2C/B2B communication service on a shoe-string budget using open source software. This is were I fell in love with SER/OpenSER/Kamailio and its community. This is also were I learned what it means to perform nightly system changes without any test tools to check that what you're doing actually works, before unleashing it to your customers the… Show more At Inode/UPC Austria, I had the life-changing opportunity to design, develop and operate a SIP soft-switch from a 100 users lab system to a 100.000 users B2C/B2B communication service on a shoe-string budget using open source software. The early days of VoIP. At Infonova, I implemented different low-level networking pieces and high-level services for H.323 Gatekeepers, the predecessors to our now beloved SIP soft-switches. I also had the opportunity to develop spam filters and other mail server modules for a large-scale mail service with millions of users. This gave me the first possibility to experience how it feels to deploy badly tested software and screw up a huge customer base. Lessons were learned the hard way that day. The early days of VoIP.
