  The Israeli Friends of the Weizmann Institute of Science was established in 1973, by prominent economists and industrialists in a wide variety of fields in Israel. From its inception the overriding goal of the Association was to strengthen ties between the Weizmann Institute and the Israeli public, and to strengthen support for the cutting-edge research conducted by Weizmann Institute scientists. Association members visit the Weizmann Institute campus regularly, and receive official briefings about current programs and future plans. They are instrumental in raising the funds necessary to maintain the Institute's world-class level of scientific research, as well as establishing grants, prizes, and scholarship programs that enable the scientists of tomorrow to begin their professional training. The Association of Friends plays a pivotal role in the support network of the Weizmann Institute, together with the other Association groups in Europe, North America and South America. Through the Science Club of the Israeli Friends, the Association sponsors myriad events and projects throughout the year for the leaders of scientific enterprise throughout the country, always to further the goals and achievements of the Weizmann Institute.
