Adrienne Guillory is the queen of design thinking facilitation. Not only does she teach others how to empathize with users, she also empathizes with students as they embark upon a process that can be uncomfortable to those who experience it for the first time. Her ability to diverge and converge on ideas when designing design thinking workshops is like second nature. She is a subject matter expert who also coach others on how to become successful design thinking facilitators. She is a true leader in this space.

Let me tell you a story about Adrienne that illustrates how impressed I am with her character, abilities and talent. I’ve worked with Adrienne at different times during my career. I first met her at Usability Sciences when she was managing projects and taking care of business in the labs. I later ran into and worked with her at Sabre when she facilitated UX research for our internal business units. In both instances, she was thorough and comprehensive, managing communication well and generally in charge of the show. We met up and had an extended discussion about what we could work on together. It had to be something interesting… something that could activate and engage Adrienne and I in a different spectrum than our roles provided for. We decided to partner together on exploring the application of Design Sprints at Sabre. Fast forward six months, and she’s running her own Design Sprint with remote employees in India. She’s calling mid-sprint audibles on design thinking activities that I’ve never seen anyone do. She took command of conversations and guided everyone towards deliverables and outcomes that clearly exceeded stakeholder expectations. Some folks from Marketing and Sales were so impressed with her approach that they started exploring what UX and design thinking were all about. An even bigger accomplishment was our UXPA presentation in Toronto, where we showcased our case studies for doing design sprints in a corporate environment. While I fashioned our slides and materials to tell the story, Adrienne brought home why our work held significance… why it was impactful and important. She captured everyone’s attention. And here’s where you should pay close attention… whether you’re currently employing Adrienne, or considering bringing her on board to your team or company. She’s rapidly evolving to become a manager of future leaders. She has this amazing gift for individualization. She can easily recognize and cultivate the potential in others. She figures out how people who are different can work together productively. I’ve seen that time and time again when she organizes and leads teams on projects or research endeavors. Most importantly, she can channel an enthusiasm that’s absolutely contagious. She has a wonderful, professional attitude and approach that can get others excited about what they are going to do. *To summarize:* • Adrienne is a person who adapts to any situation by creating and implementing a unique vision. • She influences those around her through education and positivity. • Her ability to provide context and compassion to her work ensures stakeholders fully understand their users. The only question is whether you’re willing to invest your time in her development and position her for growth, potential and performance. If you’re on board for that, you’ve got one hell of a prospect on your hands. She has my full endorsement, and I wish her all the best with her career.
