My responsibilities as a new graduate vet at Summerhill include: consult days (20 minutes long and usually 20-23 consults a day), covering emergencies as needed (not OOH), inpatient shifts and theatre days (so far, I’ve done cat, dog and rabbit castrations and cat spays, as well as mass excisions, stitch-ups and toe amputations – I’ve also done three bitch spays, but hopefully will get more done before the end of the year as routine surgeries come back to practice). Of course part of the work also includes imaging (I’m competent with radiography and plan to further my knowledge in ultrasonography by doing a Beginner’s ultrasound course at Bristol Uni), laboratory work (my current practice has IDEXX ProCyte Dx biochem and haematology analysers and I learned how to work them well) and dentistry (not fully confident in doing surgical flaps yet, but it is something else on my list of skills I’ll be working on).

The work of a tutor requires a great deal of autonomy. I am responsible for my own advertisement and I have to be constantly aware of my schedule, prepare the lessons beforehand, anticipate the students’ needs, find the best way to teach each pupil individually, and make sure they achieve the best marks possible. I have received very positive feedback from students who were happy they realised their full potential. The work of a tutor requires a great deal of autonomy. Most of the work I did in M&S involved the behind-the-scenes organising and preparing of the store before it was open to customers. This job required of me some flexibility - to meet my manager’s expectations and enable a good working environment for myself and my many colleagues -, self-motivation to carry out the daily tasks demanded of me, and customer service skills, to best handle customers queries. Quatro Patas de Mossoró is a small veterinary clinic in the city of Mossoró, state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. As a student, I had an internship at this practice, from 2007 until my graduation. I helped the veterinary surgeon during consultations, including house calls. As soon as I graduated, in the beginning of 2011, I was hired as a junior vet. Quatro Patas de Mossoró is a small veterinary clinic in the city of Mossoró, state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.
