I met Adrian at the Social Venture Institute (SVI) Conference in 2015 when he was running his company, Transformation Projects, and got to work with him more when I joined the board of the Vancouver Mural Festival (VMF) in 2018. His title, Director of Engagement, does little to explain how much he's done for the city of Vancouver. Adrian has a deep respect for other cultures and this is exemplified in his work at VMF. In addition to co-founding what is arguably one of our city's top arts festivals, he's made efforts to connect with marginalized communities through art and VMF's programs, and work toward Reconciliation. One of the prime examples of this is the murals in (what is currently called) Cathedral Square in downtown Vancouver, deemed as the first large-scale public art collaboration between weaving artists of the city's three First Nations. I miss Adrian's welcoming and friendly personality at meetings, and am honoured to serve on the festival's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee which he's a part of, to make VMF a more equitable and inclusive organization.

Adrian and I have worked together since 2009 on more projects than we can count. He brings a deep sense of awareness and empathy to every project, and has been a leader in building inclusive spaces long before it hit mainstream awareness. His lifelong dedication to building just cities is a daily practice. I highly recommend Adrian for speaking engagements and panels to discuss his work -- both in personal awareness of privilege and access, as well as forming trusting relationships to support the efforts of equity deserving communities.
