Currently, I am exploring complex algorithms and reviewing academic work for demanding business use cases involving autonomous flying vehicles and remote sensing using deep learning. As a member of the IoT Innovation Team, I was technically leading the development of a new HERE geo enrichment offering PoC which set the grounds for the HERE Advertising Data Services API (see https://www.here.com/products/location-based-services/advertising-data-services for product details). I defined the service capabilities and designed the REST API, which is still used in the final productized version. I developed the REST API using Flask, Swagger/OpenAPI and Connexion for client side access. Further, the ETL pipeline and index generating pipeline was developed using Apache Airflow, GDAL, Postgres, and custom C routines. Further, together with the DevOps team, I helped build a CI/CD pipeline using Docker, Jenkins and Kubernetes, that enabled the developer environment to be equal to the production environment. As a member of the GeoInsights Team, I was responsible for feature development for the DataLens Backend using Python, Flask, Spark, and AWS Redshift. I achieved a smooth migration from the Tornado framework to Flask while driving substantial code quality improvements with my colleagues. Further, I was responsible for custom built geospatial and spatiotemporal big data solutions to drive visualisation use cases using specialised indexing methods and data structures. I suggested a new indexing strategy for datasets in the 1E9+ rows regime, using space filling curves, which resulted in a performance increase of 2 to 50 times, depending on the user's query. MultiDark DB: Management and development of a terabyte sized database storing large cosmological simulations and their results. The original simulation data was read into a MS SQL Server 2008 database using specialised C and FORTRAN tools. The data from the database is then served to the scientists through an Apache Tomcat application under www.multidark.org. To improve the query performance for future large scale data sets, I developed a strategy for sharding the database over multiple nodes using MySQL and the Spider storage engine. For this, I wrote a query reformulation tool which handles joins on distributed tables and distributed aggregates. In order to facilitate data warehousing of such large data sets I further developed a data ingestion library using C++ which can be easily coupled to any raw simulation data reading tool. The library was optimised for high ingestion performance. Using the ingestion library, I then developed a multipurpose ASCII data ingestion tool which handles arbitrary row based data formats (see http://github.com/adrpar). Further, I created a prototype using optimised data structures for fast range queries on 3D to 6D data sets which will form the basis of a MySQL range query plugin in the future. Additionally, I supported the design of a PHP and Zend web application for easy and transparent access to scientific databases. Show less
