Back to Hawkweed again. I really hope this does not hurt my work at ABZECO as I am still enjoying what I am doing there, but I really needed to keep up some management/consulting on my resume. It was a really tough choice as the guys at ABZECO have been great and Practical Ecology have always been supportive. In the end I tried to balance the two (with my PhD also) and just do what looked best for me, as either way I played it someone was going to be disappointed. The work at Falls is really good and the people are great too. I enjoyed mentoring Jeremy last year in a management role (he may tell you that I was just a pain in the ass but that is what I tried to do), and from what I saw he did really well in the role and is also back for this year. So more of the same leading a group of guys and gals surveying for hawkweed around the high plain, conducting eradication when we find it in the HIA, and plotting survey routes and plant occurrences on GPS for use in a GIS environment. This is going great have further picked up some work on the Pimelea spinesens project which has been a blast. At the moment this has been restricted to lab germination of Pimelea spinesens using a new and exciting technique. Have officially filled in the forms for starting some work at Victoria University. Will start with some weed control on the "Seeds from the streets" Program for my PhD supervisor, and then move on to some Delmar (stripped legless lizard) surveys. Looking forward to some more work here, teaching has been put out there but not sure how seriously yet. I will wait patiently that would be a really cool opportunity. Show less

Back to Isabella Williams and some other interesting Brimbank sites, along with a few Hume City Council jobs also. Great team really know their stuff, looking forward to learning heaps while I am here. This is a little more permanent than Australian Ecosystems. Casual environmental field technician. One of the highlights here was flora surveying and weed mapping Aurora estate for Stockland. Some great sites in their offsets, including some of the best rocky knoll grassland vegetation I have seen. Working with Tom was great too, if you are out there Tom linkin.
