  I have been working as scientist and GLP study director at Central Veterinary Institute (CVI) of Wageningen UR in Lelystad (The Netherlands) since 2000. My main interests were the research to and the development of animal infection models. Later on interest in the softer sciences grew and I became an affiliate of the learning network theory. How to circulate and implement “hard” knowledge in the animal husbandry society to enable or accelerate changes. In 2010, I finalized a PhD on “Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus Immunopathology and Vaccine Evaluation”. This research contributed to the understanding of vaccine- mediated enhanced disease after bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) infections in cattle and has resulted in a bovine infection model to evaluate efficacy and safety of candidate BRSV vaccines and other intervention strategies. I am currently working as a clinical virologist in many projects concerning endemic and emerging viral diseases. Show less

  De Ouwendorperhoeve is een boerderij waar wij op kleine schaal, met respect voor dier, maatschappij en milieu willen boeren. Wij melken vanaf maart t/m september rond de 30 schapen, maken onze eigen boerenschapenkaas en verkopen die op de boerderij. De wei (een waardevol bijproduct uit de kaasmakerij) gaat naar de varkens, die weer opgroeien in ons "berenbos"...   Kinderen in contact brengen met de wetenschap! Het Wetenschapsknooppunt Wageningen University nodigt kinderen en hun leerkrachten uit op de universiteit. Tijdens de kinderboekenweek 2015 mocht ik, samen met Manon Sikkel (kinderboekenschrijfster van o.a. Slimpie Dimpie) twee schoolklassen ontvangen in de bibliotheek van Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, op bezoek bij een basisschool in Veenendaal en een school uit Wageningen ontvangen op de campus.
